Well I’d argue you are still right too.
If people are to imagine that it fails because the implementation is not good enough, and just a bit more data or … whatever, is going to “fix” it, another product would help, they are indeed being mislead.

It matters because OpenAI is spearheading the hype.
If it was a self-hosted solution that the sysadmin of the hospital had done over the weekend it wouldn’t have the same impact compared to the most popular product that is often perceived, correctly or not, at the most advanced.

Yes it’s a big… confusing but the truth is, beyond headsets, maybe my deeper need is … any device, anywhere, cf https://git.benetou.fr/utopiah/offline-octopus/ and that does include XR, yes, and desktop, yes but also… literally anything!

PS: need a mobile version for this because the immediate question while showing the image is… “Can we try it right NOW?” and the silly answer is “well, it’s on my desktop at home so… no :/” which is not great when people are genuinely eager to tinker.

Side track but I also find this path to success pretty horrifying. That person is unfathomably rich… by exploiting others https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandr_Wang
Yes it happens to be about fueling the trend topic of the moment… but still, learn how the sausage is made. It is not pretty.

Why is this person relevant on that topic? Didn’t he make a successful online temp company?🤷♂️
It’s like asking the interior decorator at LHC about black holes. Sure they have a different perspective than the “average” person but they are not the researchers working there. https://x.com/tsarnick/status/1850276524588728395

Actually I doubled check and the problem seems to be at the OS level. Namely in the OS I can have left hand, right controller, right hand, left controller… but when I pick the pen, whatever else I have disappears.

So… actually I went back to tinker with hand and controller together (Quest 3, OS v71.0, Browser 35.3).
I tried to then turn on the pen and it worked in the OS but not in the WebXR app where I could only have “normal” controller on the left and hand on the right.

Or to entire column/lines, as the wall example above.
Imagine drag&drop of wall then apply rotation left on 2 columns. Might be both efficient to do and relatively easy to understand as it’d be coherent UX.

Thinking also of drag&drop of modifier, e.g rotate left, rotate right, scale x2, scale 1/2, bump 1m up, bump 1m down, etc that would be applied to the content of each cell.

Could be interesting also to have previews of content from the shared directory on there too.
Being able to give a rough pose of documents, viewers, etc before going into XR then more precisely adjusting thanks to 6DoF hand tracking, controllers, etc.

6 clicks results with better UX, namely :
- drag&drop wall on 2 columns, 2 lines (4 clicks)
- click on floor fill
- copy JSON result
… and voila!
(original)
-
Replying to @technobaboo, @aframevr and @IcosaFoundation
Another “quick win” in terms of UX is floor filling, namely pick 1 asset and make it the basis layer.
Anyway yes far FAR from a product yet already an interesting way to setup content rather efficiently IMHO before diving in XR!

Thanks! The hope it to better integrate with live modelling (Blender files supported already), asset packs like https://kenney.nl/assets/category:3D?sort=update and also gallery from @IcosaFoundation (cf e.g. https://github.com/icosa-foundation/icosa-gallery/issues/73 ) for live co-creation.
Plenty of UX ideas, e.g. column/line filling!

Tooling to generate files : now that you can use a .layout.json file to place “things” (documents and more) around, how about a small “builder” where you use a top-down view to put 2D previews of 3D models?
Not as fun as in VR but while collaborating could be more efficient.

Being able to “create” instantly, without effort, might promote p-creativity over h-creativity, assuming incorrectly that just because it has been combined right now, it is new. Maybe it is, maybe it is not. Without proper provenance, it is hard to say.
(original)
-
Replying to @utopiah
Also important to consider p-creativity vs h-creativity (Boden), hence it’s not because you or “it” combined 2 existing things and you have a new thing that it’s genuinely novel.
It can be new for you but maybe someone else did it a while ago.

I don’t think that’s specific to languages and compilers.
Nothing is ever finished, it’s only “good enough”.
Even folding a napkin can never be done perfectly so I’d argue it’s not specific to a topic, more of a mindset.
